Fire and Cook
2016
Beech, dough, paper, cotton string
Our current food system is built upon speed, convenience and efficiency. Cooking is a very primitive and instinctive process, but through our fast pace society, cooking is becoming both alien and unnatural to us. “Fire & Cook” is a cooking kit that requires the user to build up from scratch the elements necessary for cooking.
The fire is made from a self-assembly pump drill, the fire wood is the kit itself, the cooking is done with clay. And finally bowls and cutlery from spelt are provided to eat from. All of which can be burned after use, leaving nothing but a natural trace on the environment.
Being compact and easy to travel with the kit resembles the flexibility and mobility of what cooking is supposed to be. This kit is not made for speedy meals, the whole process will take between 2-3 hours. But through its usage the user will experience a primitive and rewarding cooking experience and meal.
