Ochre Works, brought together 4 years of research of danish ochre pigments, while also marking the beginning of a new company. The title Ochre Works refers to factories that produced colours from natural earth pigments. Once, such factories existed in most regions across the world, but today they have almost disappeared. But what if we revived them? What if we took this historic industry and its material, reimagined it, and made it contemporary, relevant, and future-oriented?

The Launch of Pigmenta Works

The exhibition invites visitors into the world of natural earth pigment production. Machines, samples, experiments, and applications are presented, offering insight into both traditional craftsmanship and industrial production. At the same time, Ochre Works serves as the platform for the launch of Thomas Woltmann's new company, Pigmenta Works (PW).

PW was founded with one clear ambition: to rebuild the industrial production and application of natural earth pigments in Denmark. For more than 60 years, natural Danish pigments have not been produced or used on an industrial scale.

With support from the Danish Arts Foundation and the Innovation Fund Denmark, PW aims to become a genuine alternative to synthetic pigments. The company primarily operates in the B2B market, supplying pigments to manufacturers, currently with a primary focus on Denmark.
